Information About the GOld Coast, Queensland, Australia
http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au

The Gold Coast region is situated in the Southeastern corner of Queensland, approximately seventy-five kilometres south of the state capital, Brisbane. The region comprises a significant stretch of Pacific Ocean coastline extending from the Logan River in the north to Coolangatta on the Queensland/New South Wales border.

The Gold Coast is the fastest growing major region in Australia and is the largest city outside the 5 Mainland State capitals. 444,077 people were counted at the 2001 Census, including 51,275 visitors, of whom 15,244 were from overseas. That was a 3.4% annual growth rate over 5 years since the 1996 Census.

The estimated total population of the Gold Coast Statistical District in May 2003 is to be 470,000.

Future growth will increasingly occur in the corridor between Gold Coast and Brisbane alongside the new 8 lane Pacific Motorway. They will soon join to form one continuous urban area with a combined population of over 2 million people.

CLIMATE
The Gold Coast region is conducive to a good quality lifestyle, with average maximum day time temperatures of 28 degrees Celsius during the summer months (December to March), falling to 21 degrees Celsius in winter (June). The year round average air temperatures is 25 degrees Celsius with an average ocean temperature of 22 degrees Celsius. Consequently the beaches are utilised almost all year round.

THE NEW SURFERS PARADISE
Surfers Paradise is being transformed into a large open-air shopping centre in keeping with its role in the past. Over the past 6 years the City Council has spent some $15 million on extensive landscaping, widening footpaths and re-paving all pedestrian areas in the precinct. A further $30 million has just been spent largely by the State government on roadworks in the lead up to the big switch. Space for tour bus parking, taxi ranks, public transport and 3,000 car parks have been incorporated in the careful planning, and all is now ready for the New Surfers Paradise to emerge.

The development industry has invested heavily in this transformation and values have soared after many years of declining land values. Investors have confirmed the confidence of developers by buying apartments in large numbers in the new generation of residential towers that are emerging in the heart of Surfers Paradise.

  • Chevron Renaissance 3 towers up to 49 storeys containing 711 apartments,
  • Circle on Cavill 2 towers up to 69 storeys containing 637 apartments,
  • Q1 Tallest Tower the tallest residential apartment building in the world at 80 storeys with 527 apartments

The New Surfers Paradise is a bold venture that has been carefully planned to put Surfers back on its pedestal as the most popular tourist destination in the South Pacific. It is the result of active collaboration between the City Council, local business and State government. It deserves to succeed and results to date give every indication that it will.

STRONG CONFIDENCE IN THE FUTURE
The announcement that development heavyweight Lend Lease is about to commence a series of up to 12 residential towers in Surfers Paradise underlines our claim that this is the Golden Decade for Gold Coast City. It clearly differentiates this region from other major cities where the talk is of slowdown due to over supply.
